Inscription.

in 1873. From 1870 to 1909, Mgr Laflamme taught geology at Laval University, where he was the secretary from 1884 to 1893, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts in 1891 and 1908 the rector from 1893 to 1899. He was the author of the first written geology textbook in French in Canada. Mgr Laflamme was a founding member of the Royal Society of Canada in 1882, chairman of the geology and biology section in 1887 and chief executive in 1891. He died on July 1910 at the Seminary of Quebec. His death gave rise to a national mourning. The scientific community has honored his memory by naming a postglacial sea, the Gulf of Laflamme, which covered the Lac Saint-Jean region about 10,000 years ago. This exceptional man deserves recognition and memory should remain alive in our national history.
