Regarding Max Planck. German physicist Max Planck (1858-1947) was one of the main founders of quantum mechanics. He is probably best known for Planck’s constant, h, which relates the energy of a single photon of light to the light’s frequency (or, equivalently, to the light’s wavelength and the speed of light).
For many years Planck taught at the University of Berlin. In 1949 the school’s name was changed to Humboldt University of Berlin in honor of Prussian educator Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835) and his brother, naturalist Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859).
