A Revolutionary soldier volunteer under Capt. Marks of Charlottesville, Va. Part of the time he belonged to the regiment that was detailed as a body guard to General LaFayette. He was in all the principle battles fought in New Jersey, Penn. and Va. He was at the battles of Monmouth, Brandy Wine, Stony Point, Germantown and lastly was present at the ever memorable Surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown
