Regarding Historic Viola School. This one room school house was built in 1894. The building is being restored and preserved by the Viola Community Club and used for Community activities and can be rented for other events. The last year it was open was 1948.
My brothers both attended in 1948 and as a pre-scooler I went there on special occasions. The next year we were bused to Estacada for grade and high school.

While it is indicated that the last class graduating class at Viola School was 1939; this picture is of my father’s class in November 1941 at Viola School, as indicated in the picture. The teacher was Mrs. Layton and she is standing in the middle of the second row. The classes represented are grades 1 through 8.
