Boot Hill Cemetery
Crime was rampant in Pioche in the early 1870's. During the first few years of Pioche's boom days it was said that 72 men "were buried with their boots on" before anyone died of natural causes. Many of these men are buried in this old Boot Hill Cemetery.

Location. 37° 56.054′ N, 114° 26.84′ W. Marker is in Pioche, Nevada, in Lincoln County. It is on Comstock Road near Nevada Route 322, on the left when traveling east. When driving through Pioche on 322, turn east on Comstock and drive about 0.1 miles to where it turns into a gravel road, and then keep driving another 400 feet or so to the entrance of the cemetery. Andrew Whitlock was killed by Jas. Maxwell, at Meadow Valley Mill, Lincoln County. The former was an important witness in a lawsuit over the title to a ranch, and Maxwell took this way to keep him from testifying, and then escaped over the line into Utah. -- Ghost Town Seekers
