1. Bridge Tender's House Marker
Inscription. The bridge tender's house was constructed by the Union Pacific Railroad to serve as an employee surveillance point. The bridge tender could respond quickly to locomotive-caused fires and could remove flood debris which might damage the bridge and cause interruptions to railroad traffic. The photograph shows the present bridge under construction in 1910.
Restored by the Wyoming Recreation Commission in 1983, the one and one-half story, clapboard-sided structure was probably built before 1887. The replacement of steam by diesel locomotives in the mid-1900's (sic) eliminated the necessity for a bridge tender and the house was abandoned.
