Lewis Howard Latimer
September 4, 1848 December 11, 1928
Considered one of the 10 most important Black inventors in US history. Lewis Latimer was renowned for his work with the Edison Pioneers. Of his many inventions and patents, his most famous discovery was the incandescent light bulb carbon filament which illuminated the world for a century. Lewis was not only an inventor, draftsman, engineer, author, poet and musician, but was also a devoted family man and philanthropist.
