The Grounds of this Canal
were donated by the Heirs of the late
Hon. Augustus Porter & Gen. Peter B. Porter.
1852.
In pursuance of their original design for Hydraulic purposes the work was commenced in 1853 by a Company which failed & the Title passed to the present owner Horace H. Day. by whom the structures were erected & Canal completed
July 1, 1861.

Location. Marker is missing. It was located near 43° 5.325′ N, 79° 3.574′ W. Marker was in Niagara Falls, New York, in Niagara County. It was at the intersection of 3rd Street and Niagara Street, on the right when traveling south on 3rd Street. Marker faces a pair of quarter circle cement bleachers that face each other closely. This small "pocket" park seems neglected. The brick surfaces have odd slopes and heaves. Update: The park was leveled by the private owner in 2016. Marker is missing. Touch for map. Marker was in this post office area: Niagara Falls NY 14301, United States of America. Touch for directions.

Regarding The Grounds of this Canal. The canal no longer exists. It has been filled. The canal carried water diverted from above Niagara Falls to mills along the Niagara Gorge, producing power.

The bridge, like the canal, is gone without a trace. The plaque on stone is in the same corner park as the marker. It is facing west, away from, but alongside, 3rd Street.
