Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Catholic Church is the official Shrine to St. Philippine Duchesne; the only person to set foot in Kansas territory to be canonized to Sainthood, as of 2010.
This Church was built by the Diocese in 1941-1942. 1941 was the year St. Philippine Duchesne was declared Blessed by the Vatican; the Church was named after the name of the Order of Teaching Nuns she belonged to, Sisters for Sacred Heart.
She was canonized in 1988. Approximately 13 miles northwest of this location is the St. Philippine Duchesne Memorial and Historical Park. (38.240203, -94.947281 GPS).
It is located North on K-7 to county road 1525 and west 5.5 miles to what looks like a Fort Entrance. After entering the entrance follow road approximately Ύ mile to main park area and trails. Several signs to explain different sites.
