Monument to the Heroes of April 4, 1954
Te mataron y no
nos dijeron donde
enterraron tu cuerpo,

On April 4, 1954 a handful of heroic civilian and military patriots took up arms against the dynastic dictatorship of the Somoza family, were taken prisoner, suffered the most atrocious tortures and were then killed and buried in secret places. Fifty years after their sacrifice, their example and their memory, they continue to live among us.
They killed you and didn't
tell us where they buried your body,
but since then the whole country is your grave
or rather, in each bit of national territory
where your body is not, you rose again
They thought they killed you with their order of Fire!
they believed you buried but what they did was bury a seed
"If I die fighting for freedom I leave to you my honor and my ideals." · Pablo Leal (1954)
