Served in the New York 38th Regt. June 4, 1861, until June 22, 1863. He was in both battles of Bull Run, and Antietam. Promoted to Sergeant Oct. 1, 1861. He served in U.S. Navy Nov. 9, 1863 till Nov. 9, 1864.
