This regiment was ordered to remain at
Perkins' Landing, Louisiana, when its Corps
crosses the river to Bruinsburg,
Mississippi. It rejoined its brigade at
Vicksburg about May 24, and served in the
trenches until the end of the siege, July 4,
without reported casualties.

 
Location. 32° 20.602′ N, 90° 51.064′ W. Marker is in Vicksburg National Military Park, Mississippi, in Warren County. Marker is on Clay Street west of Union Avenue, on the right when traveling west. Regarding Ohio Ninety Sixth Infantry,. This unit was attached to Brigadier General Stephen G. Burbridge's 1st Brigade, of Brigadier General Andrew J. Smith's 10th Division, Major Generals John A. McClernand's (relieved of command June 19, 1863) and Edward O.C. Ord's XIII Army Corps, and commanded by Colonel Joseph W. Vance.
