Dora Hall Stockman

Elected to the State Board of Agriculture in 1919, Dora Hall Stockman was the first woman to hold an elective office in the state of Michigan. She was the first woman in the United States to be on the Board of Control of a Land-Grant Institution, the Michigan Agriculture College (not Michigan State University). Stockman was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1938 and served until 1946. She introduced legislation for the Michigan Medical Insurance program which later became Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
A sesquicentennial marker dedicated in honor of the contributions of Michigan women to this state's progress 1837-1987.
