Grose's Brigade
— Palmer's Division —
4 Napoleons, 2 24 PDR. Howitzers.
Grose's Brigade, Palmer's Division, Crittenden's Corps.
September 20, 1863.
1st Lieut. Francis L. D. Russell, Commanding.
2d Lieut. John G. Butler.
Early in the morning Captain Standart, Chief of Artillery of Palmer's Division, placed the Battery in this field in rear of General Cruft's Brigade in reserve. The Battery remained here during the day, firing but once, when Grose's Brigade was driven out of the woods on the left. The Battery then changed front and firing over the heads of the infantry aided in driving the enemy back. During the day the two 24 pounder howitzers were used in replacing two guns of Battery B, 1st Ohio Artillery, that were disabled, and were gallantly served with General Cruft's Brigade during the afternoon. About 5 o'clock p.m. the Battery received orders to withdraw to Rossville and retired with General Cruft's Brigade to that point and encamped for the night. Casualties of the battle: 2 men killed; 6 wounded; 14 horses killed and wounded; 3 caissons abandoned.

More about this marker. In locating this tablet I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
