September 20, 1863, Morning, 1st Position.
58th Alabama - Colonel Bushrod Jones.
37th Georgia - Lieutenant Colonel Joseph T. Smith.
4th Georgia Battalion Sharpshooters - Lieutenant Joel Towers.
15th Tennessee - Colonel R. C. Tyler.
37th Tennessee - Colonel R. C. Tyler.
20th Tennessee - Major W. M. Shy.

On the morning of September 20th the Brigade was moved to this ground from its bivouac 500 or 600 yards to the left of this position and formed on the right of Brown's Brigade. At 9 o'clock Deshler's Brigade of Cleburne's Division moved up on the right of Bate, Wood's Brigade of that Division being thrown to the front of Bate. Soon after 11 o'clock Wood's troops were forced to retire and passed over Bate's Brigade to the rear. Bate's then advanced into action, passing the crest in front of this position into the Poe field beyond.

This marker is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, a moderate walking distance north of one of the park's secondary east to west roadways, a short distance off a marked park walking trail.
