September 19, 1863, 11:30 a.m.
This Brigade marched from the Kelly field about 8:30 a.m. as the reserve of Baird's Division. After several changes of front it reached this position about 11:30 a.m. and was struck in front and right flank by the left of Govan's Brigade of Liddell's Division which forced it back and captured five of its guns.
The advance of Croxton's Brigade of Brannan's Division subsequently enabled Starkweather to recover these guns. The Brigade rallied in the glade east of the Kelly field. Toward evening it was sent forward with Scribner's Brigade on its left to the left and rear of General Johnson's Division, passing over the ground of the morning fighting. I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
