1. Fun Fair Park Marker
Originally eyed for the 1904 World's Fair, the area just west of the Chain of Rocks Bridge became a lively amusement park. Attractions included a hand-carved 46-horse carousel, "The Swooper" an oval-shaped Ferris wheel and "The Comet" roller coaster.

More about this marker. This is part of the City of Maplewood's Route 66 Tribute and Memorial Plaques series, which pays tribute to even businesses that were not in Maplewood. This is one of the Memorial sidewalk plaques.
Regarding Fun Fair Park. The Fun Fair Park was mostly known as the Chain Of Rocks Fun Fair Park. It was located on the bluffs, overlooking the Mississippi River (not too far from the original Chain of Rocks Bridge). For several years, the park would host several school picnics. The Chain of Rocks Park would be one of the leading family destinations for decades. However, by the 1970's, things slowed down for the park as many factors would lead to its eventual demise. Some say it was slumping ticket sales, while others say it was competition with Six Flags Mid-America, which opened in Eureka, MO (outside St. Louis) in 1971.
