1. William Randolph Barbee Marker
The marker is just feet from the county line.
Inscription. Here stood “Hawburg,” birthplace of the eminent Virginia sculptor William R. Barbee (1816–1868). He studied in Florence, Italy, where he carved his famed “Coquette” and “The Fisher Girl.” Returning to the United States in 1858 he was at work on a design for the pediment of the U.S. House of Representatives when the outbreak of the war brought his career to an end. He died at “The Bower” which stood not far away.
 
Erected 1972 by Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. (Marker Number C 56.)
 
Location. 38° 39.635′ N, 78° 19.231′ W. Marker is in Panorama, Virginia, in Page County. Marker is at the intersection of Lee Highway (U.S. 211) and Skyline Drive, on the right when traveling east on Lee Highway. Touch for map. It is located just to the west of the overpass of Skyline Drive over U.S. 211. Marker is in this post office area: Luray VA 22835, United States of America.
