1. English Turn Marker
Inscription. So named because in this bend, Sept. 1699, Bienville, coming down stream, met the British who had come up river to choose site for a settlement. Bienville convinced Captain Lewis Banks that the territory was in possession of the French. Early concessions were established in the vicinity.
 
Erected 1963 by Department of Commerce and Industry.
 
Location. 29° 52.682′ N, 89° 57.849′ W. Marker is in Braithwaite, Louisiana, in Plaquemines Parish. Marker is on English Turn Road (Parish Route 3137) one mile west of Parish Route 39, on the right when traveling west. Touch for map.
