This stone is one of four Cardinal Direction Markers that honor the four directions—north, east, south, and west. Representatives of Native communities in Canada, Maryland, Chile, and Hawai'i selected a meaningful stone from their region.
This southern marker is a granite stone between 65 and 145 million years old. It traveled more than 18,000 miles from Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost point of South America.
