1. 8th Virginia Infantry Marker
Colonel Eppa Hunton, commanding the 8th Virginia Infantry from Loudoun County and other areas of Northern Virginia, arrived at Ball's Bluff at about one p.m. Deploying here at the edge of a small field, Hunton's 8th Virginia joined in the battle. Hunton recalled, "I was assailed repeatedly during the day and had to fight hard to maintain this position…and when we would fight and drive them back, I would retired my line of battle some twenty yards and obtain the protection not only of the woods, but of the crest of the hill. [The] enemy [was] strongly posted in the edge of the woods with two howitzers and one rifled cannon. At the first fire from my regiment, nearly every man at the enemy's cannon was shot down."

At the time of the battle, the ground to the right of the marker was open field. The park administration is reducing the undergrowth and cutting some trees to restore the battlefield's appearance.
