This stone is one of four Cardinal Direction Markers that honor the four directions—north, east, south, and west. Representatives of Native communities in Canada, Maryland, Chile, and Hawai'i selected a meaningful stone from their region.
This northern marker from Canada's Northwest Territories is granite gneiss. It is one of the oldest stones on earth—approximately 4 billion years old!
