1. Cardinal Direction Marker: North Marker
Inscription.  
This stone is one of four Cardinal Direction Markers that honor the four directions—north, east, south, and west. Representatives of Native communities in Canada, Maryland, Chile, and Hawai'i selected a meaningful stone from their region.

This northern marker from Canada's Northwest Territories is granite gneiss. It is one of the oldest stones on earth—approximately 4 billion years old!

Please respect the animals, rocks, and plants around you.
