1. Pyramid on Pyramid: the South Steps Marker
Pirámide sobre pirámide: la escalinata sur
Aquí se puede observar parte del primer templo a Xiuhtecuti-Huehueteotl que se erigió alrededor del año 450. Después, se construyó otro encima que es donde estás parado. Esta pirámide es una representación del cerro sagrado, el centro del universo, el lugar dónde comienza el tiempo, o la montaña mítica dónde está la entrada al lugar de los muertos y al lugar de los dioses del cielo. El grupo Xajay la santificó como una montaña de fuego, que marca el lugar más importante del Pahñu y, a su vez, el lugar más próximo al mundo superior.
Los arqueólogos encontraron espinas de maguey, navajillas de obsidiana (vidrio natural de origen volcánico), puntas de flecha y lanza; objetos usados para extraer la sangre y ofrecerla a los dioses solares y del fuego durante el autosacrificio. Además, hallaron huesos de niños y adultos que fueron sacrificados.
En Pahñu, la gente ofrecía a los dioses lo más valioso que tenía: su propia sangre y la vida de loś prisioneros.

Here you can see part of the temple of Xiuhtecutli-Huehueteotl built around the year 450. Later, another one was built on top, which is where you are standing. This pyramid is a representation of the sacred mountain, the center of the universe, the place where time began, or the mythical mountain where the entrance is located to the place of the dead and the place of the gods of heaven. The Xajay group sanctified it as a fire mountain, which marks the most important place in Pahñu and is also the closest to the higher world.
The archeologists found maguey thorns, obsidian blades (natural volcanic glass) and arrow tips and spears. These objects were used to extract blood and offer it to the sun and fire gods during self-sacrifices. They also found bones from children and adults who were sacrificed.
In Pahñu, the people would offer to the gods what was most valuable to them: their own blood and the lives of the prisoners.
