Inscription. Enclosure, 16 acres. Once held 10,000 men. Destroyed by Federals, 1865. Site one block south.

The Confederate Prison was located at this site, now occupied by the Salisbury National Cemetery. The trenches where the prisoners who died here are buried can be seen behind the marker.
