26th Tennessee Confederate Infantry Regiment July 8, 1861,
reorganized as 2nd Company I, 1st Georgia Confederate
Infantry Regiment, November 8, 1862. Served in this Regiment
until the end of the war.
Erected in the year of Our Lord 2016, by the Private John
Ingraham Camp #1977, Sons of Confederate Veterans,
Chickamauga, Georgia.

Text on the Back Side:
April 1861, James Clark Gordon, William Gordon, Blackstone
Hendrix, and Jerome Henderson organized and trained a
company of State Militia on these grounds to defend the State
of Georgia, as ordered by Georgia Governor Joe Brown. In an
effort to defend the South, the company traveled to Knoxville,
Tennessee, and was mustered into 1st 1st Company H, 26th
Tennessee Confederate Infantry Regiment on July 8, 1861,
captured at Fort Donelson, Tennessee February 16, 1862 and
sent to Camp Douglas Federal Prison Camp in Illinois. Upon
being exchanged were mustered into 2nd Company I, 1st
Georgia Confederate Infantry Regiment on November 8, 1862.
Regiment surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina on
April 26, 1865, led by then Lieutenant Colonel James Clark Gordon.
