Inscription. This building was modeled after a unique horseshoe-shaped dairy barn near Georgia, Vermont. It is constructed of hand-hewn beams salvages from twelve barns and stones from two gristmills. The massive structure incorporates 745 timbers, posts, and braces; 17,000 feet of plank and other boarding; and 9,000 square feet of slate.

The desire of Electra Havemeyer Webb (1888-1960) to provide a suitable setting for the more than forty-five horse-drawn vehicles used by the Webb family and collected by her father-in-law, Dr. William Seward Webb, provided the inspiration for founding the Shelburne Museum. The Horseshoe Barn exhibits horse-drawn carriages, coaches, and sleighs.
