1. The Second Siege Line Marker

Inscription. The low earthworks on either side are part of the French and American advance line. Construction was started when allied artillery fire had sufficiently weakened the British defenses. The line was completed after the capture of Redoubts No. 9 and 10.

3. Redoubt No. 9

This redoubt was attacked by French troops on the evening of October 14, 1781. This and nearby Redoubt 10 were taken in less than a half hour.

4. Redoubt No. 10

While the French attacked redoubt 9, American troops under Lafayette charged and captured this redoubt on the York River.

5. Grand American Battery

After the taking of redoubts 9 and 10, they were incorporated into the Second Allied Siege Line. The Grand American Battery was then established here.
