Sin duda uno de los ejemplos de arquitectura neoclásica más importantes del país, el Templo del Carmen de Celaya, se erige en sustitución al Templo originalmente construido por uno de los más destacados arquitectos del virreinato: Fray Andrés de San Miguel., Del conjunto original aún puede admirarse el sereno claustro que ostenta los severos lineamientos que en su momento rigieron la construcción de los santos yelmos de la orden de los descalzos. Undoubtedly one of the most important examples of neoclassical architecture in the country, the Temple of Carmen of Celaya is a replacement for the original temple built by one of the most outstanding architects of the Viceroyalty period: Friar Andrés de San Miguel. Of the original construction the serene cloister can still be seen with its severe lines. Its construction was governed during that period by the Order of the Discalced. Built between 1802 and 1807, this unique monument still holds surprises with the beauty and accuracy of its proportions; in its exterior it has a tower made of two bodies on a solid narthex. Another highlight of the building is its beautiful side door with a niche and sculpture of the Virgin Mary. The interior of the temple is imposing due to the generosity of its dimensions. Its plan is that of the Latin Cross integrally resolved with Classical elements used in its entablatures and altars. Considered to be the masterpiece of the distinguished architect from Celaya, Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, the Temple of Carmen is a must-see site and an iconic, historical reference of Mexican architecture.
