Name Origin:
Named for two famous British ships of exploration in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Flight History:
First flight August 30, 1984. Discovery was NASA’s “workhorse shuttle’. During 39 missions, between 1984 and 2011, it spent a total of one year in space and traveled 149 million miles.
