1. The Balcarres Redoubt Marker
Inscription.
Stunned and reeling from fighting in Barber’s Wheat Field, Crown Forces were able to re-form here behind previously constructed defenses. These log-and-earth walls had been built shortly after September 19, 1777. These fortifications are now known as the Balcarres Redoubt, named after the British officer who commanded the British Light Infantry stationed here.

Location. Marker has been permanently removed. It was located near 43° 0.187′ N, 73° 38.278′ W. Marker was in Stillwater, New York, in Saratoga County. It was on Park Tour Road, on the right when traveling north. Marker is in Saratoga National Historical Park along a walking trail at the Balcarres Redoubt/Freeman Farm stop. Touch for map. Marker was in this post office area: Stillwater NY 12170, United States of America.

The Balcarres Redoubt was the strongest part of the fortified line that the British constructed between the Hudson River and the Breymann Redoubt after the September 19, 1777 battle.
