Casa del Inquisidor
Edificio HistóricoEste espacio constituye uno de los pocos ejemplos que hay en Salamanca de arquitectura civil barroca. Se cree que su construcción se inició a finales del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX, lo cual apunta a que fue una de las primeras fincas construidas en la Villa.

A pesar de las modificaciones que se le han hecho, la casa aún cuenta con detalles que revelan la majestuosidad de su pasado, como la pilastra con un nicho que se encuentra en la fachada de cantera y el patio interior con su arcada barroca, muy parecida a la que ostenta el Portal José Rojas Garcidueñas, de Jardín Constitución.

Sobre el nombre con el que popularmente se le conoce a esta casa se ha especulado mucho: algunos afirman que, en afecto, en ella vivió un miembro del Tribunal del Santo Oficio; sin embargo, otros aseguran que en Salamanca no hubo nunca Inquisición. Hasta ahora no se sabe con certeza de dónde proviene el nombre de esta Casa del Inquisidor, que también es conocida como Casa del Diezmo.

Historic Building
This space is one of the few examples of baroque civil architecture in Salamanca. It is believed that its construction began in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, which suggests that it was one of the first large houses built in the town.

Despite the modifications that have been made, the house still has details that reveal the majesty of its past, such as the pilaster with a niche that is found in the quarried-stone facade and the interior patio with its baroque arcade, very similar to that of the José Rojas Garcidueñas Portal of the Jardín Constitución (the Main Garden Square, nearby).

The name by which this house is popularly known is the subject of much speculation: some say that a member of the Tribunal of the Holy Office (also known as the Inquisition) lived here; however, others claim that there was never an Inquisition in Salamanca. Until now it is not known with certainty where the name of this house comes from. Interestingly, it is also known as the Casa del Diezmo (The House of the Tithe).
