Location. 34° 55.705′ N, 85° 15.21′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Catoosa County. Marker is on Alexander Bridge Road east of Battleline Road, on the right when traveling south. This marker is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, just off one of the park's east to west roadways, along a trail into the woods. According to the location information provided by the National Park Service, “Monument located within the Chickamauga Battlefield in the woods off Alexander Bridge Road, map site #71". Touch for map. More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the marker is, “1'6" wide x 1' deep x 3' high, the marker is a rectangular block of smooth-faced Tennessee gray marble inscribed on the front. Marks the unit's position east of Battleline Road."
The National Park Service also states that the, "Stone marker shows the location of the 2nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment at 10:30 A.M. on September 20, 1863 during the Battle of Chickamauga."
In locating this marker I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this marker and the marker's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
