Casa de Mariano Abasolo
(Museo Bicentenario)
Se le conoce con este nombre por ser el lugar donde, en 1783, nació Don Mariano Abasolo, destacado insurgente que tuvo una sólida formación militar llegando a obtener el grado de Mariscal de Campo. Abasolo perteneció a una familia acaudalada que estaba a favor de las ideas liberales, por ello formó parte del group de consipiradores que impulsó el inicio del movimiento de Independencia y quien luchó al lado de Miguel Hidalgo.

A principios del siglo XX, el licenciado Francisco González Caballero realizó las gestiones pertinentes para que la emblemática casa fungiera como sede del Ayuntamiento municipal, desde entonces y hasta el año 2010, allí operaron las oficinas de las autoridades del Ayuntamiento.

Antes de que se cumplieron los doscientos años del inicio del movimiento de Independencia, la comisión organizadora para los festejos de tal fecha conmemorativa, aprobó un proyecto para trasladar el Ayuntamiento a otras oficinas y convertir la “Casa de Abasolo” en el Museo del Bicentenario.

los festejos del Bicentenario de la Independencia; la Casa de Mariano Abasolo fue equipada con tecnología de punta para dar cabida a cinco salas de exposición, donde los visitantes pueden conocer diversos objetos de la época independentista como joyería, ropa, armas, uniformes, pinturas y un sinfín de objetos bien dispuetas para que el espectador se traslade hacia ese tiempo.

En el museo no podían faltar las figuras de los principales personajes: Hidalgo, Aldama, Allende, Abasolo y Josefa Ortíz de Domínguez. Además de la sección donde se exhibe una colección de Alejandro Cortina y Cortina y parafernalia de la Independencia, esta colección consta de 827 piezas que incluyen diversos artículos elaborados o fabricados para conmemorar el primer Centenario de la Independencia.

En otras salas los visitante pueden conocer cómo se vivió en Guanajuato durante otros procesos históricos de México, como el Porfiriato o la Reforma.

This is the house where, in 1783, Don Mariano Abasolo was born. He was a prominent insurgent who had a solid military training. Abasolo belonged to a wealthy liberal family, it was part of the group of conspirators that prompted the onset of the independence movement and who fought alongside Miguel Hidalgo.

of the Bicentennial Independence, approved also the Project to move the City Hall officies somewhere else and turned the “Abasolo House” into the Bicentennial Museum.

With the opening of the museum the celebrations started; Mariano Abasolo’s House got new technology to accommodate five exhibition halls where visitors could learn about different objects of the independence era such as jewelry, clothing, weapons, uniforms, paintings and countless objects nicely shown so that people could understand that time.

The museum emphasizes the personalities of: Hidalgo, Aldama, Allende, Ababolo and Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez. It holds a collection belonging to Alejandro Cortina and Cortina and paraphernalia of the Independence, this collection consists of 827 pieces including various processed or manufactured items to commemorate the first centennial of the Independence.

In other rooms, visitors may learn on how people lived in Guanajuato during other historical periods in Mexico such as the Porfiriato and the Reformation times.
