El gran caudillo de la independencia Don Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon estuvo preso en este edificio de La Ciudadela del 28 de noviembre al 22 de diciembre de 1815
De aquí se le condujo a San Cristobal Ecatepec donde fecundizo con su sangre generosa la santa causa de independencia patria
La Comision Nacional del Centenario de la Independencia consagra esta lapida a la imperecedera memoria del héroe insurgente.
21 de septiembre de 1910.

English translation:
The great leader of independence José María Morelos y Pavón was imprisoned in this building of La Ciudadela (The Citadel) from November 28 to December 22, 1815.
From here he was taken to San Cristóbal Ecatepec where he generously sacrificed his blood to the holy cause of national independence.
The National Commission of the Centennial of Independence consecrates this tablet to the imperishable memory of the insurgent hero.
September 21, 1910.
