Inscription. Native Americans lived along the lower portion of the Rock River for thousands of years. Through time they were drawn to the area's abundance of fish and wild game and its ability to grow domesticated plants. During the early 1800's, the Sauk lived in villages at and near Prophetstown.

Wabokieshiek, (White Cloud, "The Prophet" circa 1790-1841) was an advisor to Black Hawk. This area known as the "Prophet's Village," was burned by Capt Abraham Lincoln's Company during the Black Hawk War. 1832--Black Hawk and Wabokieshiek were captured in WI.
