This towpath trail leads to the remains of a D&H Canal suspension aqueduct designed by John Roebling, who later designed the Brooklyn Bridge. Photographs and a scale model of the aqueduct are on exhibit at the D&H Canal Museum.

Access by Permit Only. Permits available from the D&H Canal Museum, 23 Mohonk Road. The Museum is located on Mohonk Road, just off Rte. 213. Museum and trail access hours: May - October, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, 1-5. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Permits allow access for viewing canal remains only. Absolutely no climbing, jumping, swimming or creek access permitted. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visitors assume all risks of personal injury.

No Trespassing. Violators will be prosecuted and fined. This property patrolled by law enforcement officials.

Two High Falls crossings are shown in this illustration. The stone twin arch bridge built in 1826 is shown in the background. It was later demolished. The Roebling suspension aqueduct shown in the foreground was constructed in 1849 during a period of enlargements and improvements to the canal. The aqueduct was destroyed by fire in 1917. All that remains of these two structures are the abutments of the Roebling aqueduct including the cable anchorage.
