1. Old Mercer County Jail Marker
Inscription. Built in 1827, the large building served as a home for the jailer and his family and as jail cells for the prisoners. Most famous inmate was Lizzie Hardin, a Confederate sympathizer, jailed for waving her handkerchief at John Hunt Morgan and his men as they rode through Harrodsburg. The rear building served as the county jail from the 1870s until 1983.
