Debra Barnes
Pittsburg, KS
— Miss America 1968 —
"'It sounds corny and trite…but the main thing I'm looking for is meeting people. I love people.' She smiled as she told how the people there (Moran, Kansas, pop. 550) raised $1,300 for the fare so that her father…and sister could attend the finals. Her mother, who has multiple sclerosis has been in a hospital for the last three years. 'I'm going to give the money to help fight that disease.' She will return to college and says,'I want to teach piano at the college level.. and I want to write music.'"
