1. Employee Duplex No. 2 Marker
This structure mirrored the appearance and function of Employee Duplex No. 1. The bricks for both buildings were fired in the Agency’s kiln. Workers at the Agency saw mill, located south east on the Yellow Medicine River cut and process the wood used in construction. Historical records do not indicate which Agency employees lived in this building from 1859 to 1862, but officers were quarter here in 1860 when US soldiers were stationed at the agency. In 1866 Joseph Fortier, a French-Canadian interpreter, he was part of the damn structure as a trading post and store.Erected by Minnesota Historical Society.
