1. Tilghman Andrews Marker
Inscription. Born in Maryland, he came to California in 1865 and served in the Civil War with Company H, 32nd Regiment, U.S. Infantry with the Union Army, where he was detailed to Indian Scout Duty, engaging in many skirmishes and fights in Arizona. In May of 1872 he married Sarah A. James, daughter of John M. James, a member of Captain Johnson’s wagon train that arrived in El Monte in 1852. They moved to El Monte in 1880 and settled on a ten-acre tract of land south of the Mountain View School, which they improved and later set for walnuts.
