Settled in 1746 by Mathias Wagner, the farm has remained in his family. It is one of the largest operating farms in the state. The first incorporated farm in the state, Maymead Stock Farm is both a National Bicentennial Farm and a Tennessee Century Farm. It is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
