Current Restoration Efforts
Miamisburg Mound State Memorial
In 2009, the City of Miamisburg initiated the Miamisburg Mound Reclamation Project with the support of the Ohio Historical Society. The goal of the project was to consistently and safely restore the aesthetic beauty of the Miamisburg Mound and to allow for the efficient and effective long-term maintenance of the site as a state memorial.
Beginning in 2009, under the direction of the Miamisburg Fire Department, a controlled burn has been performed annually to eradicate invasive vegetation of the mound and promote the growth of native grasses. The controlled burn is normally performed in early spring. Later in the spring, maintenance crews will chemically eradicate invasive vegetation and re-seed areas of bare ground with Little Bluestem grass, a native perennial grass by hand.
The City of Miamisburg, Ohio Historical Society, Miamisburg Historical Society and volunteers have contributed to the improvement and preservation of the Miamisburg Mound State Memorial. If you would like additional information regarding the Miamisburg Mound or are interested in participating as a volunteer during park improvement efforts.
