Inscription. Follow the green blazes of this self-guiding, 0.2-mile loop trail and explore the life in the Piedmont forest. This type of mixed hardwood forest once covered the rolling hills between the Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains from New York to Alabama. Agricultural practices and development have destroyed most of these eastern woodlands. This national park protects the largest expanse of Piedmont forest in the National Park System.

Erected by National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
