Toluca fue conquistada por Gonzalo de Sandoval en 1521 y en 1529, Carlos V concedió a Hernán Cortés el título de Marqués del Valle de Oaxaca. En la donación de tierras que se lo hicieron quedaron comprendidas Toluca y Calimaya. Durante el Virreinato, Toluca fue cabeza del Corregimiento del mismo nombre.

English translation:
Toluca was conquered by Gonzalo de Sandoval in 1521 and in 1529, Charles V granted Hernán Cortés the title of Marquis of the Oaxaca Valley. In this donation of lands were included Toluca and Calimaya. During the Viceroyalty, Toluca was head of the Corregimiento of the same name.
