1. Whitehouse Marine Corps Memorial

Inscription. The U S. Marine Corps began with the founding of the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775 to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, shipboard security and discipline enforcement, and to assist in landing forces. The Marine Corps mission has evolved with the changing military doctrine and foreign policy of the United States, and they have the distinction of having served in nearly every conflict in United States history. The modern Marine Corps is a component of the Department of the Navy and maintains amphibious and ground units for contingency and combat operations.
