1. Winfrey Cemetery Marker
Inscription. The Lower Redoubt, the fortification built to protect the Civil War depot, now watches over Winfrey Cemetery and people who once lived and worked in Johnsonville.

Winfrey Cemetery was originally located on a hill overlooking the town of Johnsonville. The Tennessee Valley Authority moved the cemetery here in the early 1940s, just prior to flooding the town site to create Kentucky Lake.

The cemetery contains the remains of the Winfrey and Green families. Only three of the twenty eight graves are marked. The earliest death date,1871, is on the marker for Albert Alonzo Winfrey, pictured on the far right.

Additional commentary.
1. Albert Alonza Winfrey (actually is Egbert Alonza Winfrey)
On FindAGrave, before the marker was as stained, you can see it says Egbert Alonza Winfrey. They also show their parents' names: M.J. Winfrey & S.M.C. Winfrey. The grave broken severely to the left of Egbert Alonzo Winfrey's appears to be his half-sister: Ida J. Troutmah (daughter of J.T. & M.J. Winfrey); born 1851; the death date seems inaccurate on FindAGrave. Note To Editor only visible by Contributor and editor
