The M-170 Truck, Ambulance
Military Museum of North Florida
Front line, ¼-ton, 4X4 was a variant of the M-38A1 Military Jeep, with its body lengthened by twenty inches, heavier suspension, and provisions for three patients on litters. The spare tire and jerry can of the M-170 were mounted in the body tub next to the passenger seat. Other differences from the M-38A1 included interior lighting, fender well storage compartments, crash pads, and a tailgate.
These vehicles were used at naval hospitals and medical facilities. With the help of M-170 enthusiasts and their vast knowledge and resources, we have determined that this is the only restored M170 in the U.S. Navy markings in North America and quite possibly the world.
