Inscription. One of the essentials for locating a house in pioneer times was for it to be near a source of water. This stone springhouse covered a free flowing spring that furnished water for the Edmondson family who lived here for over 100 years. John Edmondson settled here ca 1810 and built a two story log house. His son Henry C. Edmondson later lived here. There was extensive foraging here during the Civil War. The morning after the Battle of Franklin, Mrs. Edmondson rode horseback to Franklin to care for the wounded on the battlefield. The property was bought in 1928 by J. W. Little, who had a dairy here which used water from this spring. The property was bought in 2004 by John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, Inc. In the development of the property they restored this ancient springhouse.
