El Señor Cura Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla se alojó en esta casa del 17 al 19 de octubre de 1810, después de la toma de “Granaditas” en Guanajuato, para continuar rumbo á la Ciudad de México la campaña de la independencia nacional.

The priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla stayed in this house from October 17 to 19, 1810, after the capture of "Granaditas" in Guanajuato, to then continue towards Mexico City during the campaign of national independence.

An additional marker notes that the building has been used as a high school associated with the San Nicolás de Hidalgo University of Michoacán since October 2, 1978.
battle was indecisive and there continue to be rumors about Hidalgo's decision to retreat from the area and not attempt to take Mexico City. Although further battles were to take place, the insurgent army had lost its initial momentum and would soon falter at battles at Aculco and Calderón Bridge. Hidalgo and his main leaders would be captured and killed on July 30, 1811, ending the first phase of Mexico's independence struggle.
