A. Sub Soil Plow, c. 1700s. Sub soil plows were used to deepen furrows already plowed. Deep furrows allowed better moisture retention and root penetration.
B. Potato Plow, c. 1890.
C. 1850s Plow.
D. Hillside Plow 745X or Two-Way Plow. Hillside plows had a mechanism which allowed the moldboard to pivot on its axis so the farmer could plow back and forth across steeply sloping ground and cast the furrow downward.
E. Ox Yoke, c. 1840. Oxen have been used by farmers for over 4,000 years. In colonial America, oxen were the primary source of power for such jobs as plowing. Ox yokes were put over the oxens' necks and attached to the plow shaft by a central ring.
F. Small Plow.
G. 40 Oliver Furrow Plow.
H. Shovel Plow. Shovel plows were used to plow small fields and to cultivate crops, especially horn.
